A Look Back at an Iconic Career
Whether commanding the silver screen, crooning timeless music hits, or headlining packed Las Vegas showrooms, Dean Martin defined mid-century American stardom like few others.
Martin first rose to international fame in the late 1940s and 1950s alongside comedian Jerry Lewis as part of the legendary comedy duo Martin and Lewis. Together, they starred in 16 hit comedy films and dominated radio, television, and live theater before launching successful solo careers.
As a solo movie star, Martin proved his dramatic and comedic range in classic films like Rio Bravo (1959) alongside John Wayne, The Young Lions (1958) with Marlon Brando, and the original casino heist film Ocean’s 11 (1960). Off-screen, he was a core member of the legendary Rat Pack alongside Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr., defining the glamorous era of 1960s Las Vegas entertainment.
Beyond cinema and music hits like “That’s Amore” and “Everybody Loves Somebody,” he hosted the hugely popular variety series The Dean Martin Show (1965–1974), earning a Golden Globe Award for his laid-back hosting style, followed by his famous celebrity roast specials.
